Is it skin purging or a breakout?
Purging shows up where you already break out, starts within days of an active that speeds cell turnover, and clears in about four to six weeks. Spots in new areas, or irritation that keeps getting worse, point to a poor product fit.
Change one thing at a time
Purging has a pattern. It appears where you already tend to break out, shows up within days of starting something like a retinoid or an acid, and clears on its own in about four to six weeks while the rest of the skin looks fine.
A breakout from a poor product fit looks different. It appears in places that are usually clear, comes with new redness, itching, or burning, and does not improve week to week. When in doubt, the location and the timing tell you most of what you need to know.
While you are deciding, keep everything else stable. Write down the start date, the product, and where the spots appear. A short log beats memory when you are comparing week one to week four.
Stop signs
Stop the product for persistent burning, swelling, blistering, hives, or symptoms that keep getting worse. Seek urgent help for breathing trouble or severe swelling.
